Who, me? Talk about Coachella? Never… And if by never, you mean it may or may not be every other topic I want to discuss within the months leading up to the April festivities, then yeah, that’s totally me. With two weekends of the music industry’s best lineup, the infamous spicy pie, and some of fashion’s biggest influencers gather beneath the same setting sun, Coachella isn’t just any typical festival – it’s quickly become THE festival. I mean, did you really even go if you didn’t post your day two outfit to the ‘gram?
Long gone are the days of adorning yourself with your favorite crown of flowers, modeling your looks after #CoachellaKween Vanessa Hudgens’ past outfits, and the overall push to be the poster child for the bohéme – which, don’t get me wrong, is totally still a popular Coachella staple (and, truly, I can’t say anything because most of my friends know my style to be a bohemian dream), but this year we’re trying to go for a more subdued bohemian look. Wear that floral printed maxi dress, but opt for a pair of studded biker boots or those Dr. Martens that have been sitting in the back of your closet for way too long. Hell, pull out those chunky sneakers and a pair of Nike socks to turn your desert runway into the perfect opportunity to sport one of your favorite street style trends.
Fashion is all about taking those risks and going for it – nothing, and I mean NOTHING, would have the power to be a trend if some brave person out there didn’t take the risk of walking past their doorstep. So, don’t be sacred of breaking the rules and creating your own, because that’s what makes all of this fun.
Alright, ladies, let’s grab your favorite booties, chuck that five dollar flower crown from Claire’s (RIP tho) in the trash, and grab your suitcase because it’s time to begin your COACHELLA CHECKLIST.
Below, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite Pinterest pins that have given me major Coachella inspiration the last few weeks and will be helping you recreate those looks, throwing in a few of my own suggestions to help inspire you.
I’m also a huge fan of the fisherman style caps. My black one from Brixton adds the perfect touch to the most basic of outfits. These have been on the radar for awhile, but I’m guessing they will continue to grow with wear at Coachella
Don’t be afraid of keeping it simple, either. I truly believe that everyone should own a pair of light-wash denim shorts (or mom jeans, or boyfriend jeans, skinny… basically, just please invest in a pair of light denim, I beg of you) and a crisp white t-shirt or button down. While for the festival, I’d opt for the high-waisted short version, the nights do get chilly in the desert and a pair of longer pants wouldn’t hurt to have on hand.
My favorite are a pair from Goodwill, but Urban Outfitters and Missguided always have good options. Grab an old white t-shirt or button down and knot it in the front. Finish it all off with a statement belt. As usual, logo belts are highly popular right now, but get creative.
Also, can we talk about how nice it is that sneakers are becoming such a popular trend again? You can bring the cutest pair of boots, but I promise you, your feet will thank you for bringing these.
Finally, my last photo of inspiration includes one of my favorite fashion rules to break: WHITE, WHITE, WHITE. I don’t care what you say, I’m a strong believer in winter white, spring white, summer white, and fall white. Forget Labor Day and purchase white statement pieces that will always, always make you look somewhat put together. I’m obsessed with the plunging neckline on this maxi dress and the ruffles along the sides and along the bottom. It’s the perfect option that can be paired with heels, but also with those chunky boots you packed, too. A little chilly at night? Pop on that denim or leather jacket you brought along. Throw on a statement belt or, if you’re brave enough, a statement fanny pack and hit the road. How goals is this one from Gucci?
While Coachella fashion may seem intimidating, it shouldn’t be something you fear when attending this year’s events. Do you want to go all out? Go for it. Would you rather stay simple with basics that will never go out of style? Totally.
Are you going to a weekend this year? If so, let me know what you plan on wearing and which artist you’re most looking forward to seeing! Also, check out a few of my other favorite Coachella picks below! ttyl,
